Does anyone know if the Activ Inspire software will be able to be loaded on an IPad 2. We would like to use these in the classroom.
Hi Dona,
Simple answer is no --Inspire is not available for Ipad now. So, how do you want to use Inspire with iPad? Do you want to use iPad as a remote controller of your ActivBoard? Or do you want your students to use iPad individually? We want to hear more. Thanks.
I would be interested in using Activ Inspire along with an ipad also. At this point I would love to use it as a remote with my board. Open flip charts on the ipad and control them from anywhere in the classroom.
You could run a VNC program (there is a ton available at the Apple Store) and control any whiteboard software remotely with an iPad. I also really like the uWriteTouch Engage tablet --- which let's you see the computer screen right on the tablet. It works great with ActivInspire and is fun to use while students are doing self-paced work. You can walk around the class and look on the Engage table and see how they are doing in real time.
I would like to use it for my students. It would bee super if they could wiew flipcharts i made or even grate and present their own. My school are planning to use Ipad in almost everý grade.
I was really bummed when I found out my ipad2 wouldn't be compatible with activinspire and the promethen board! I was counting on being able to connect my apps to the board. With both of these items being new technology I thought they would be compatible!
I hope that as soon as possible there will be able and app to connect ipad2 to the promehean board. I think it's very important.
Apple has positioned iPad between the iPod and Mac/PC. It has no USB connectivity the way a Mac/PC do, so even if Promethean had a version of ActivInspire for iOS, it wouldn't allow users to use it with their ActivBoards interactively.
Plus, the iPad does not have the hover feature. I have tried it with screen sharing apps and have successfully gotten the technology to work together, but the experience is poor because the screen refresh is slow over the network and the lack of hover makes it difficult to use and frustrating.
A MacBook Air and Promethean's new laptop shelf for v4 ActivBoard Fixed mount systems should be a slick option. Until a day when Apple decides to add USB to the iPad. This is rather unlikely for a long time.
I believe iOS 5 for iPad 2 will support video mirroring over Apple TV. So putting your iPad display on the ActivBoard will be easier. (Promethean's PR30 and EST projectors) have HDMI built-in so this might be a way we see some integration, but again, with no USB connectivity on the iPad, there will be no interactivity from those apps unless you are using the iPad.
I am really excited about ActivEngage mobile coming out. I predict that this will be a huge hit!
PS (I even tried the Apple Camera Connection kit, just to plug it in to an AB587 and try it, to no avail, of course, because in addition to physically connecting it, a software driver would also be required. And as far as I know, Apple isn't allowing that type of software at this time within iOS.)

Looking forward to hearing more about this as a confident Promethean user but a 'newbie' when it comes to using Mac and the iPad 2!
what is a VNC program?
From Wikipedia: In computing, Virtual Network Computing (VNC) is a graphical desktop sharing system that uses the RFB protocol to remotely control another computer.
The first thing that will be available for Inspire and Ipad/Iphone is an app for Activengage which is a virutual version of their LRS, Activexpression. Activengage is currently available for 1 to 1 environments on laptops. An app is forethcoming for Ipad.

To only wiew a flipchart save it as a pdf and share this to the ipads.

Unless I'm missing something, the most recent version of ActivInspire does not provide the option to save or export flipcharts as pdfs. I didn't mention it in my original reply but the teacher who has flipcharts to share has many interactive features on the flipcharts.
