This is a frequently asked question of Planet members:
"What is the best way to take advantage of PDF documents with ActivInspire?" or "I have several pdf documents I want to use with my Activboard. What is the best way to be able to annotate over them."
While some folks might use the Desktop tools to annotate directly on a pdf, it is really advantageous to import the pdf directly into ActivInspire (and it's quick too!)
Here's how to do it:
1) Go to the File menu and choose Import>PDF.
2) Navigate to and select the pdf that you want to import. Click open.
3) Choose the page size, which pages you want to import and where you want to import it to. If it is an existing flipchart, you should select "The End of the Current Flipchart."
4) Your page(s) are now imported! Easy, huh? Now some tips for using them.
How do you do this in Activestudio Professional?
I think this is pretty much new in ActivInspire. It may have been a feature for Mac users with Activstudio. You may want to update to ActivInspire.
Have you tried to preview a print job of a pdf import? I don't see anything in the preview screen.
When I import a pdf with the new 1.4 inspire on a mac, the program crashes and must be restarted.
I just tried it and didn't have any problems using my Mac with 1.4. Have you tried a different pdf?
Lisa
I've tried different ones. Sometimes it doesn't crash, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason.
Brendon, could you post a problem PDF to the forum so we can take a look at it please?
We did find some PDF issues during testing for 1.4 but these were fixed so i'm surprised to see you having problems, but if you can let us have a look at the problem files we will see if we can get tot he bottom of it.

My favorite way to use PDF documents is to use the camera tool (in Inspire or Adobe) to copy parts of the pages into my flipchart. By copying only part of the pages you can help students focus on exactly what you are talking about instead of on the whole page. It is often helpful to put just the directions on one flipchart page or just the first question you are going to do as a class. After going through the directions and the first question you can pass out the entire sheet and let students go to work.

Hi Brendan,
Are you still experiencing this crashing behaviour or is it completely erratic and unpredictable?
Thanks a lot,
Ed Kilbane
Software Product Manager.
I must say, I just tried about a dozen pdf files and I didn't experience any crashes this time. That is good news. Don't know what changed. Thank you for asking. I will post any that give me problems in the future.
Ed, I am having the system crash when I try to import pdfs. It usually happens if the pdf is more than one page. Any suggestions?
Lori, be sure you have the latest version of the software and you might want to report this to the tech support forum.
Lori, are there special characters in the name of your pdfs?
