I saw this video this weekend and thought it would be a great video to introduce students to a unit about the oceans, tides or the arctic. This would be really beautiful to look at on an Activboard. Turn sound up! I think it would set the mood for a unit or just calm down and relax a class. (Could be good for photography classes, too!)
If you haven't seen this feature yet of ActivInspire, you have to have the updated version of 1.6 and then you will see under Insert menu (Link>Embedded HTML) just paste the code from the embed video part of the video page (see below).
Here's the link to get to the embed code!
Hi Lisa,
I can't seem to get the video to play once I've embedded it into ActivInspire. Is there a plug-in I need to download to view the videos?
Thanks,
Steph
You are inserting it as an html link?
Yes that was the the way I was inserting the link from Vimeo in as 'Embedded HTML', however the website would appear (live) but the videos would not play or appear at all- neither as a small video or in 'Couch Mode'.
I have also tried inserting a URL address from Youtube and the video still does appear. My ActivInspire is updated to the latest version: 1.6.46087.
I have been watching the videos through the website- great videos! They really brought a little peace and harmony to my hectic day.
Steph :-)
Hi Lisa, This is what it looks like in my ActivInspire.
Make sure you're inserting the embed code, rather than the URL link.
I have only managed to get this to work with YouTube... I'm having problems getting Vimeo clips to work
The embed code in Lisa's original post looks like it will try and play the video full screen, which i'm guessing is why it may be having problems.
Daryl
Code you will find for HTML embedding will start and end with something like: <iframe>......... </iframe> or <object>........</object> , In YouTube it is found in the 'share' options of a video where it is allowed.
Links usually begin with http://www........ and are best used through the Insert > Website option and they will open a web browser window when clicked.
Thank you all!
I've successfully embedded a Youtube video-YAY!
Thanks Lisa. Worked perfectly. I also embedded a acool video about a time lapse space shuttle returning to earth, music by Peter Gabriel. Vimeo works great, including full screen view. I've also embedded code for "My Library Thing", which turns the flipchart into a virtual browser where my books can be viewed as active embedded links. Cool.
I had a go at embedding The Arctic Light video into a flipchart. I didn't have any success using Vimeo's new embed code for iPad etc so I used the old embed code instead:
<object width="400" height="225"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=24456787&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=1&color=00adef&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=24456787&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=1&color=00adef&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="225"></embed></object><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/24456787">The Arctic Light</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/terjes">TSO Photography</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>
This worked, but the video was a bit small so I changed the width to 800 and the height to 450 in the above code (I did it in both places "width = " and "height = " appears in the code). That worked as well, and the video size was better. I had to select the video by clicking and dragging from outside the video to inside the video to move and resize it.
I then tried width = "1000" and height = "563" (ie 2.5 times the original numbers) in both places in the embed code and that worked as well, and the video filled most of my 1024 x 768 page.
I tried to attach the flipchart (with extension .flipchart) but received the following error message:Only known URLs and the following file extensions are allowed: 123, aac, ai, aiff, art, asf, asx, avi, bmp, config, csd, css, db, db, dmg, doc, docx, drw, eml, flac, flv, gif, gz, htm, html, ics, jpeg, jpg, log, m4a, m4p, m4v, mdb, mdbx, mid, midi, mmv, mov, mp3, mp4, mpg, mpp, msg, ogg, pdf, png, pps, ppt, pptx, ps, psd, qt, ram, rar, rm, rtf, sit, sitx, sql, swf, tif, tiff, txt, vcf, vcs, wav, wma, wmv, wpd, wps, xls, xlsx, xml, zip, as2a, as3a, as4a, flipchart, flp. Please select a valid file or enter a valid URL.
Since the extension was .flipchart, I am not sure why it wouldn't attach. Any ideas?
Cheers
Rex
Don't use the attach feature. Use the insert image from the formatting tools. : )
OK, I'll try it.
1007.ArcticLight.flipchart
Well, how about that, it worked. Should someone tell Promethean about this 'feature'? :-)
I'm having some difficulty embedding HTML from the flashcard maker on Pro-Profs.com - When I paste in the HTML, then look at the object in the flip chart, it goes right to the last one and won't interact. Any ideas?
Here's an example of the HTML - <iframe name='proprofs' id='proprofs' height='280' width='406' style='overflow-x: hidden;' frameborder=0 marginwidth=0 marginheight=0 src='www.proprofs.com/.../cards_w.php style='font-size:10px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#000;'><a href='www.proprofs.com/.../story.php target='_blank' title='100 verbs spanish 2'>100 verbs spanish 2</a> » ProProfs <a href='www.proprofs.com/.../& title='flashcard maker' target='_blank'>flashcard maker</a></div>
