I have about 18 ActivBoards installed in my school -- ranging in age from 1 - 8 years. This school year, some of my teachers are bringing in their iPads and want to use them with their ActivBoards.
Is it true that Promethean doesn't support a mobile app, or a way to download ActivInspire so they can work from their iPads like the slates? I have so much money invested in Promethean boards that to change would not be possible.
Does anyone know of something that works?
Thanks,
Suzanne
Hi Suzanne,
Activinspire just like Microsoft office products are fat client applications with considerable application intensive application that needs to run on a full blown operating system.
Ipads run on IOS applications and currently are not built for such intensive applications. Even the mobile version of facebook on Ipad has limited functionality.
So perhaps a slimmed down activinspire version with minimal functionality will be created for the Ipad one day.
Even then it will have to communicate with the board using bluetooth which is not very reliable.
Even though ActivInspire doesn't work as a mobile app as of now, there are lots of other options to use with the ipad for interactivity. Apps like Splashtop, Remote VNC, Whiteboard,Educreations and Show Me are very useful for displaying from your ipad to the board and controlling the interactivity from the iPad itself. Try looking into some of these awesome apps.
Basically you need something that will control the PC, and through that be projected onto the Promethean whiteboard. As has been suggested, Splashtop and others will work. The ipad connect to the computer via the network.
A while back I wrote a blog called "What can I do with an iPad in an Activclassroom?" You may want to read it as well as the comments!
