Update your email address

You may have noticed, but just in case you haven't -- here's the scoop. You can now login to Planet using your email address -- that means you can stop banging your head against your keyboard hoping to remember your Planet username. All you need to do is enter the email address you used to set up your Planet account, and then enter your password --- Voilà! You're in!

But it gets better - you can now update the email address associated with your account. Just go to My Planet > Account Details (image below)

Then simply fill out the fields for updating your email address and click save.

How do I converse with friends?

Send your friend an e-mail/Start a conversation

1. If you've already added a user as a friend, go to your profile page to see a listing of your current friends. (If you've not yet added your friend, see this post for instructions on how to do so: How do I search for and add friends?)

To see your list of friends, go to the Planet menu and choose My Planet > Friends:

2. When you see your Friends listing, click on the Start Conversation link to the right of any friend's profile picture to start a conversation.

3.You'll then see the Start a Conversation box. Enter your message and click on Start Conversation to send your friend a message. Your friend will then receive an e-mail in his or her e-mail box with the option to reply to the conversation.

How do I search for and add friends?

Search for Friends

1. Visit the Community search engine: http://community.prometheanplanet.com/search/

2. Type in the first and last name of the person you want to befriend.

3. In the Search In dropdown box, choose People. Then, click on Search to see your results.

4. You may filter your results using the Sort by options at the top of the listing.

Add a Friend

1. If you've used the Search engine to bring up a listing of possible friends (see example above), choose a user from the results and click on the Add as Friend link under his or her name to see the Send a Friend Request box. Enter your message and click on Send Request to send your friend the request. Your friend will then receive the request in his or her e-mail box with the option to accept the friendship.

Quick Tip: If you read a post from someone you would like to befriend, simply click on their profile picture to visit their profile page. You'll then see an Add as Friend link in the upper right portion of the page. Select the link to make a new friend!

How do I upload files to and manage my Personal File Storage space?

One of the great FREE features of the Planet Community is the ability for you to upload documents to your "My Files" space - and they don't even have to be flipcharts! Here's a brief guide about how to upload your files.

Accessing your Personal File Storage space

(1) Log in to Planet. Then go to the main menu and choose My Planet > Files.

(2) You will then be taken to your personal page, where will see a box with the "My Files" tab selected. This box gives you a snapshot of files you have already uploaded, how far you are to your 1GB file storage limit, and more importantly, the option to upload, or delete existing files in your online file storage area, as well as create new folders for organizing.

Uploading Files

(1) In the top right corner of your My Files box, select the green arrow Upload icon.

(2) You will then see the screen below. Click on Browse to find and select your file. Note: The maximum file size is 80MB.

(3) Enter a description for your file.

(4) Next, choose the Upload button underneath the Description box to save your file to your storage space. Note: Only you can see or access any of the files that you've uploaded to your My Files area. In the near future, you'll be able to share these files with other Planet members!

Deleting Files

(1) From the My Files tab on your profile page, you'll see a listing of files you've already uploaded. Choose the Delete link next to the file you would like to remove from your space.

(2) Click Ok to confirm and delete the item.

Creating New Folders

(1) From the My Files tab on your profile page, click on the New Folder link in the upper right portion of the page.

(2) You will then see a box appear at the bottom of your file listing. Enter the name of your new folder and click on Add Folder.

(3) Your new folder will then appear on the My Files tab. You may delete the folder at any time by choosing the Delete button to the right of any of your folders.

(4) To upload files to your folder, click on the folder and then choose the Upload button in the upper right portion of the box. You may also create subfolders by clicking on the New Folder button, or return to a previous folder by clicking on the appropriate link under the main folder name. Note: The ability to move files between folders will be available in the near future!

Can I search resources by state standards?

Yes! The Search by State Standard link is located in the Resource menu.

Simply choose your state, subject area, and grade level, and type in keywords for a listing of lessons applicable to your criteria!

How do I search forum posts?

1. Follow this link to access the Community search tool: http://community.prometheanplanet.com/search/ .

2. Enter your keywords and select the area you would like to search.

3. Enter the time period for your search, and click on the Search button. You'll then see results from all forums, blogs, and other Community areas based on your criteria which you can then sort alphabetically, by relevance, ratings or date posted.

How do I search for resources?

1. Log in to Promethean Planet. (You must be logged in before you can download any resources.)

2. In the upper right corner of any page, find the Search Resources box.

3. Click on the Search Options link to specify the resources you would like to search. You have the following search options:

Resources: Find flipcharts, resource packs and weblinks
Publisher Resources: Find publisher created, low-cost resources
Products: Search for tech support, training and other information related to Promethean products
Community Posts: Search for posts in the community

4. Enter your keyword(s) and click on the magnifier to search. You may use the following operators to enhance your search:

AND: If you want a document that contains all of your keywords, use the capitalized word AND between keywords. The engine will only find resources that have both words. (i.e. black AND history)

OR: If you want to broaden your search to find lessons that contain either one keyword or another, use the OR operator between words. This method is very useful when searching for terms that have synonyms. (i.e. fractions OR decimals)

Parentheses: When combining search terms using operators and parentheses, you have much more control over your search results.

5. On the results page (see image below), you'll see your search results (1), filters by which to further narrow your results (2), options to sort your results (3), and the search parameters box where you'll be able to type in keywords for a new search.

Filters

The filters along the left side of the screen will help you further refine your search and view only resources that meet your criteria. Options for filters include:

Resource Type (flipchart, resource pack, weblink)
Lesson Type (Inspire flipchart, V3 flipchart)
Subject Areas
Ages
Resource Contains (audio, video, flash, assessment)
Country
Language

When you're happy with your filter selections, click on Filter at the bottom of the column. Your new results will then appear on the right side of the page.

6. Click on any resource to view its landing page, which contains information about the resource, as well as a preview window. Click on the blue Download Resource box to download and enjoy.
